这种压缩方式显著降低了索引占用的空间，优化了内存使用效率。然而，这种基于前缀的存储方式也带来了一些性能上的挑战。在执行order by desc等排序操作时，可能需要遍历大部分索引块来查找特定行数据，这可能导致性能下降。

总体而言，前缀压缩为MyISAM提供了空间优化的重要优势，但在特定操作场景下可能对性能产生影响。
